-
- I find this very hard to agree with. We've got a dozen or so Amigas here,
- in various configurations.
-
- I've currently got a 1942 monitor on my A4000. It's a real pig to set up
- with a 3rd party graphics card (Picasso II - it wouldn't work with the
- Piccolo SD64 at all!). It's set to a very limited range of scanrates, and
- even a usable 800x600 mode seems beyond it. (If anyone has a Picasso II
- CyberGraphics mode file for the 1942 then I'd be happy to hear from you!)
- And because of the strange modes it supports, it's useless if you want to
- use the monitor with an Amiga and PC. It doesn't even do all the standard
- Amiga modes (Super72).
-
- The monitor I had before was the Microvitec 1438 (which is now badged as
- the Amiga Tech 1438 monitor, but is essentially the same). That worked
- fine with all the graphics cards I tried (CyberVision64, Picasso II,
- Piccolo SD64, Retina Z3), the only reason I'm not using it any more is
- that someone here needed a PC monitor, the 1942 wouldn't work, the 1438
- works fine :-( The picture quality on the monitor is fine, it does all
- Amiga modes, including Super72.
-
- The 1942s we've used have been prone to all sorts of problems (unlike the
- 1960 monitors which seem to go on for ages without problems). We've not
- had any problems with the 1438s, and the build quality /seems/ a lot
- better.
-
- Perhaps Amiga Computing had a duff one, but I'd buy another 1438 without
- hesitation if we needed a new cheap Amiga monitor. I wouldn't even touch
- a 1942 at half the price....
